It's a little energy crisis out, eh? Lines at the gas stations around the block.

I have heard many theories, and they all lead back to Canada. Lightning strike at Niagara, a glitch in the Toronto system, and a guy in my building is from Canada and he said that he had friends who worked for a Canadian power company and he was convinced that this blackout would be traced back to them (hee!).

All of these theories really only lead to one conclusion:

Canada is officially to blame for everything. Yup. It's true. Everything that's wrong in this country? Canada.

I can't find a job? Canada.
Steven Seagal movies? Canada.
The Olsen twins? Canada.
George Dubya? The heat wave? Paradise hotel? Canada, Canada and - you guessed it - Canada.

I find it freeing to finally have a scapegoat for everything in my life, from the inconsequential annoyances to the giant, life changing horrors.

Thanks a lot, Canada. I hope your happy.

Right. I was listening to the news yesterday (I was on the phone with my mom, who, in Chicago, had power) and Tom Brokaw was talking to the president of Con Ed and asked something like "In 1965, when there was a NY blackout, they swore that it would never happen again. And now this. How could this happen?"

To which I say: Shut. Up.

It's fucking ridiculous. Our country (continent, actually) is almost completely dependent on technology. Computers are everywhere. All of the drug stores in the area were closed. Most of the stores were closed, actually (pizza places were open and doing mad business and Haagen Dazs was giving out cheep ice cream ($2 for a medium cup. In NY, that's cheep)). And the traffic lights were all out.

But people were fine. This was an event because of the scope of the people effected, which was pretty spectacular. The entire state of New York lost power, not to mention Toronto, Detroit, Cleavland, most of Connecticut, et al.

Hospitals and Nursing Homes all had generators and stuff. The people I was the most concerned about were people who were stuck in elevators and subways(hello nightmare. How nice of you manifest yourself!).

Drivers were courteous and looting was really kept down (that was my big concern. Looters and drunken fights and stuff). The cops were on top of things and everyone was trying to make the best of things.

And I finally, after four years, made some friends in my building. I had never known them (for the most part) and last night we all hung out. It was fun!

So. It wasn't terrorists and it wasn't some big doomsday thing. It was fine. No one is to blame. Shit happens and get over it.

I was just pleased that I didn't go in yesterday.

I hope everyone who was effected was okay and they were able to make the best of it and get home and everything.

I always thought you and your sexy George Michael icon were shadey. It's nice to be validated.

I'll be watching you . . .

But thanks for the Show Day! :)
