Good times had by all
Jul. 17th, 2003 10:30 pmI had so much fun tonight! SO much fun! SO SO SO much fun.
I went to EW and did the discussion group. It was so cool. I got there a wee bit before six and they had a nice spread (real food, not just generic sandwiches. They had chicken and beans and salad and bread and ziti and grilled veggies and fruit. All sorts of good stuff) so they told us all to eat. Which we did. Around 6:30 they officially started. There were 11 people there who were subscribers (one person didn't show up) two people who led the discussion, and then eight staffers (non of the big writers. Mostly behind the scene peeps).
They asked everyone about themselves (Hi. I'm Anne. I live in Queens, grew up in Chicago. I love movies, books, I recently started attending Buffy conventions. I hid nothing).
Then they asked us about what we liked in entertainment. Generically. Movies, theater, TV, books, etc. That was about an hour. Then we talked about the magazine. What people liked and didn't (there was a LOT of discussion on the new layout. Overall consensus? Yuck) and why they liked what they liked. They asked us what kind of covers we would like and I, of course, said I would like to see James on the cover (I mentioned the thank you ad in variety and his astoundingly large fan base and the fact that Fury said that his agreeing to join Angel was a key factor in it's renewal. Which is true).
And I got a lot of people agreeing with me. One of the people running it was like "Who?" and about ten people (including the other person running the discussion) said "Spike." in a 'Duh' kind of voice. I also mentioned a follow up to the episode guide, which a lot of people agreed would be cool.
After that part we talked a bit about on line promotions, which was just standard stuff.
And finally, they gave us a copy of the new issue and we went through it and talked about what we liked and disliked.
By then we were running a half hour late so they rushed us out (but nicely) and gave us out prezzies.
The loot:
- Four CD's (well, actually three as for some reason I got two of one. But one was a double disk)
-Massive Dance V.1 (two of these)
-EW 80's wave (two disks)
-Audioslave
- Fifty smackaroonies
- a mouse pad of course, but this has four different lists that can be filled out (what to watch on TV, Movies I want to seem, music to listen to, and books to read) and it is about 50 sheets. So that's cool.
- $20.00 worth of gift certificates to Lows theaters
- One of those messenger bags that is slung across the back.
Overall it was so neat and a lot of fun. I would love to so it again sometime. I feel so special.
And this evening, before I left for work, my boss called me into her office and asked if I would pick up two dozen Krispy Kremes tomorrow before work. Yay! Free donuts! And a half day! ANd a dermatologists appointment, which is less than thrilling, but I'm on a roll.
Then a weekend!
I have to sleep! Night all!
