Are cherries fattening? I have been eating them like a mofo for the past few weeks (sooooo tasty and in season to boot) because they are filling and, I figured, something healthy to munch on while I am still in the (kind of ) earlyish stages of quitting smoking (though it has been seven weeks. Yay!). I figure better cherries than chocolate.
But a (really annoying, constantly bitching) woman on the train told me today that they are really fattening. Is this true? Am I eating junk under the guise of health food? Because, if so, then I may as well eat the stupid junk.
Bah.
Maybe I'll make Rice Krispie treats tonight.

Date: 2003-07-10 07:06 am (UTC)And cherries really have been particularly good this summer. They've been serving quite well as my dessert of choice.
So, umm, that incredibly wordy answer was just another way of me saying: Stupid Train Lady.

And dude. She really is the most annoying people on the planet. She starts talking to me when I am reading. And I just want to scream at her to shut up.
AND
She is always bitching. About her job, her apartment, her landlord, the weather.
The weather is the worst, though. If it is really hot and humid, she bitches about that non-stop, like it is something that someone is controlling and they are doing her wrong. If it is nicer, like today, she bitches about how it might not be hot now, but it really is just a wee relief because it's going to get bad again. And it may be cooler, but it's cloudy. God. I just want to, ummmmm, step on her foot really hard or something.
Or scream at her to SHUT THE HELL UP!!

Date: 2003-07-10 07:45 am (UTC)Thankfully on the subway, I'm just squeezed together with a bunch of random strangers every morning;) The funny thing is, it's surprising just how quickly you get used to that. After 4 years here (and years of overcrowded buses back home), it seems like the most natural thing in the world. I wonder how it must feel for tourists from Small Town where everyone drives, USA.

And dude. So true about the cherries. They have been exceptional this year. And now I know that I don't need to feel any guilt when I gnosh on 'em all the time.
And I am right there with you with the Atkin's thing. There is so much more to the diet than carbs. And with so many things, the good so outweighs the bad. I am not going to doom myself to a lifetime of celery and water because it is healthy. That would suck.
If I Want an omelet, I'm going to have an omelet. But I will have veggies in it. So even though I am eating something that is mostly unhealthy, I am getting some nutrients out of it.
Mmmmmm, omelets
