At the urging of the Nurse Practitioner (who called today to check on me. She rocks!) my mom and I hopped into a cab and journeyed to the Northwestern Memorial Emergency Room which is always fun.

I haven't been to an ER, I don't think, since the Great Shower Disaster of '96.

As a side note.

Anyway, I went to get fluids and tests and fluids and tests I got. I also threw up again which was a lot less fun then the various pricks and proddings.

AND! On an amazing note, I got to the ER, it was empty, I went right in to a room and the Dr came in maybe ten minutes later.

Wow.

Anyway, the results of the all the tests, too.

I have a bladder infection.

And Mono.

WtF?

Seriously? Mono? How is that even possible? The bladder infection is strange, too, because I have had no symptoms that I typically associate with a UTI. Like, none.

But mono?

So I left the hospital with three liters of fluid in my veins, prescriptions for an antibiotic and an anti-nausea med and a lovely note from the doctor telling work that I can return in seven days if my doctor thinks I'm up to it.

So, what the hell am I going to do for the next week?

And mono?

This is turning into an epic saga! You can always spend the week smooching with me. Um...on second thought. :0P

I hope that now they've identified your illnesses, you can start getting better, young lady. ::hugs you and tucks a blanket around your shoulders and gets you a glass of flat ginger ale::

Hey, I think Fleet is the one who is all up with the smooches.

And AC? You are going to REST and WATCH TV and SLEEP and EAT LOTS OF CARBS. There is no better excuse for that than Mono. I seem to remember Romy and Michelle fondly reminiscing about Mono. No one is going to guilt you for not going to work when you have Mono. People will tease you about the smooches however.

Yes I will! I will rest so much I will be a *blob* by the end of the week! A puddle of chicken! But without a bladder infection.

And I am prepared for the smoochie teasing. Fleet already got there when I called him last night.

Seriously, having mono is the absolute last thing I expected.

X-files season one here I come. . .

And thank you for the love.

It totally is! Epic! And hey, baby, can I give you me germs. Mmmmmm, monorific!

Thank you. I am about to run (re: hobble) downstairs and get a lot of flat, bland food including but not limited to ginger ale. And jello. And broth.

The excitement.

What a really want is a cheeseburger.

So glad you got a 2nd opinion! Aren't bladder infections a side of effect of dehydration? I seem to remember some kind of connection. That's weird about the lack of symptoms though. Does the Accutane leave you more prone to infection?
Hugs!

Date: 2008-05-12 01:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
I think the infection might be. And the Accutane actually has nothing to do with it. Who knew? Not Anne, that's for sure.

And the infection is a bad one, but no pee pain! What the heck? In the words of my nurse practitioner, "my urine is a mess".

I am a mess! And I ache! Have you ever had mono? I can't remember.

*hugs*

I miss you! I was going to call you last night from the ER but I started feeling crappier and didn't have the energy to do *anything*. I'm sorry.

Holy crap. How did they not catch the mono before??? With all your lethargy and weird multiple symptoms, grr... Dumb docs. Though I'm glad you FINALLY have a diagnosis.

But wow, as someone who has had mono twice before, I hand you a cuddly pillow and blanket and wish you well. Heeee. Really, it works different for everyone, of course. And I hope it remains mild for you.

Though, heh, Fleet may need to get himself tested too. It depends on the strand of mono, it may not have actually passed on. It's not always a kissing disease :P

Lastly, *cuddles*

Nobody thought it was mono! The ER did the test as a total afterthought. A "well, were testing for everything else, why not mono just in case" kind of thing. And I had had bloodwork less than a week ago and it looked fine, so they were really surprised.

Now I just need to get rid of it. Heh. I accept your cuddly pillow *and* your cuddles and shall settle in for a long week of doing a whole lot of nothing.

Should be interesting.

*hugs*

The fact that you got bloodwork and they didn't notice with that either is crazy to me too! Just becuase you had such crazy symptoms that were all just kinda unrelated to one another but if you stack 'em together, mono would have a big shiny light on it. So funny.

Now rest, drink plenty of fluids, and enjoy some bad TV. So says Dr. Ali ;)

On one hand, yikes! Mono!

But on the other hand, yay that they finally got it diagnosed... and you're getting medication for it! And it's something treatable! Seriously, I was getting just a bit worried when it was becoming obvious you had something persistent hat just wasn't going away.

Date: 2008-05-12 01:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
I am so glad I'm diagnosed. It really was getting a little scary. I don't like not knowing what is wrong with me and now knowing that it's treatable/wait-outable I feel so much better.

Thank you for the worry and the care.

Oh, I will. I am like a gimpy little old lady of gimpy little old ladyhood and there is not much I'll be doing today- or this week.

Expect a lot of spam.

Heh.

You can get mono in lots of ways, y'know. Dirty glass in a restaurant, that kind of thing. (Which is most likely how I got it, back in the day. I sure as heck hadn't kissed anyone who had it...)

From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
Fleet was saying the same thing: we have been going out to eat a *lot* lately and it really isn't beyond the realm of possibility that I picked it up from a dirty glass or some such.

It's much more fun to say it's from kissing, though. Heh.

Ugh. Boo on the mono. But it's nice to know what's wrong and have an actual time table for recovery, right? Yeah, not much comfort. Take it easy. Marathon some dvd's. And don't be tempted to try to rush back to work. Let your body recuperate.

Date: 2008-05-12 01:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
It's funny, but now that I can't work I really *want* to. Which is the weirdest thing ever because I very rarely want to work. But *really* don't want to rush into anything because I don't want to get worse or relapse or anything.

I have season one of the X-Files.

I think that is on my week to-do list.

And maybe season one of Twin Peaks.

Yes.

Good grief, AC! Take it easy like everyone else wrote. If you don't have a soft blanket wrapped around you, you're not taking it easy enough. ;) Snuggle down and keep drinking your fluids. ::good vibes::

Done and done!

Except for the snuggly blanket. With the fever I get insanely hot and cold and right now I am very warm. A blanket wouldn't be snuggly. =)

By my mombo just went to get my antibiotic and after she's done here I will snuggle on the couch and watch The Pirates of Penzance, which I have wanted to see for ever so long! I can't wait.

Thank you.

I am so relieved to know that I have *something*. When the doctor cam in to tell me about the bladder infection my mom and I cheered (for real). Later I was told that they had never seen someone so happy to be diagnosed. Heh.

The Kissing Disease! I remember that from my Fabulous Five books back in the day. You are kind of scandalous, dude.

But I am glad they know what's going on, finally. And now you can just chill and not go to work and watch bad TV and relaaaaaax. I might be secretly jealous, even though I know you are feeling terrible. *hugs*

Date: 2008-05-12 02:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
Hee! you can be jealous, I would be too. A week of rest and bad TV isn't all bad on paper. But talk to me in three days . . .

What's funny is that I have been talking about how I haven't taken a solid week off since I started my job and I really wanted to.

This isn't exactly what I had in mind.

And mono is SO the kissing disease! So I immediately blamed Fleet. And he immediately asked me who I'd been kissing. Heh. And thank you. *hugs*

I know! I am so upset that I am going to miss Finale night! I have been looking forward to that so much!

But I am so happy I am diagnosed. I was really getting kind of freaked. And while the diagnosis has me scratching my head it is still *a* diagnosis and it is ALL MINE!

Thank you for the love!

I bet Peekie loves having you home.

Mono? Wow. I actually know someone who was just diagnosed. Get your rest and drink your fluids. :x

Date: 2008-05-13 01:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
Was I kissing this person you know who just got diagnosed? Because apparently I can't blame Fleet (it's been, like, thirteen years since he's had it or some such nonsense) and I need to blame!

Stupid Mono. And it seems like now that I'm diagnosed my body is all, "hey! Yeah! Let's show her what this mono is all about! Super-lethargy with special aching power: Activate!"

And now I am sleepy but taking fluids. But not, at the moment, gatorade. Which is truly for the best.

Date: 2008-05-13 03:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com
Wow, mono! Well, I join everyone else in being glad you've got a diagnosis now. And it's a pain, but also an excuse to lie around and be pampered (or pamper yourself). Take it easy!

::teddy bears::

From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
Thank you for the teddy bears. They will be in good company here. And I am definitely not slouching in the 'lying around' category, oh no. I am all about the listless staring, too. And watching Paula Dean and wishing she would come to my house and cook for me when I am healthy.

Oh noze! Poor you. At least this means lots of Peekie time, but still, this is not the way to go about it. I hope you beat this into submission soon.

From: [identity profile] angelchicken.livejournal.com
Peekie time is KEY. And we are having a good time of it, oh yes. She sleeps, I sleep, she sleeps some more. Sometimes there is food.

I hope I beat this soon, too. It is so miserable! Boo!

Thank you, sweetie. I am so insanely relieved to be diagnosed even though I would have been happier if the cure was cheeseburgers and spinach-artichoke dip.

Oh well.

I'll just eat rice and broth for a week and hope for the best. *hugs*
