angelchicken: (Mirror of Erised)

I miss spinach. =(

Fortunately it is not a key ingredient, well, ingredient at all, in the turkey chili I am planning on making today or tomorrow. But I bet it'd taste awesome in it. Alas!

The icon was by [livejournal.com profile] caltrask55 and I think it's appropriate. =)

The Mirror of Erised?

I'm missing all salad greens. Last night I had to have an avocado on a plate with no greens. *sniffle*

Yes! And right now what I most Erised is spinach. Mmmmm, iron.

That's the saddest avacado story ever. Poor, lonely avacado. =( I love greens. They make me happy. Come back to me, greens!

The folks at Best Week Ever have declared that arugula is having the best week ever because, with all the spinach hubbub, arugula finally has a chance to shine.

Dude! I saw that this morning! Which is so random as I haven't seen Best Week Ever in months and months. And I'm happy for arugula and all and I don't want to deny any produce it's right to shine, especially if it's leafy, but, well, it's still not spinach. Maybe I'kk come to love arugula. But it still won't be the same. *le sigh*

I haven't seen Best Week Ever in months and months, too. Weird.

I also miss spinach. I picked up my favourite salad the other day and it had iceberg lettuce in it. I died a little inside. :(

But . . . But! But how couyld anyone substitute ICEBERG for SPINACH??? I mean, at least romaine looks the part more and is less complete water! Clearly someone was lacking above. And, if you'll notice the thread above, this is arugula's time to shine. NOT iceberg. Jeebus!

Clearly this is a problem for me.

Man, I miss spinach, too. I do love arugula, so my life is not totally devoid of tasty crunchy greens. But arugula was my occasional treat. Spinach was my staple. I'm getting oversaturated with way too much arugula.

Random fun arugula fact: In some places (like New Zealand), they don't call it arugula. Its name there? Rocket. Making rocket salad is pretty fun.

I like arugula, too, but it just isn't spinach. I coldn't eat it every day like I did with baby spinach. Alas.

But I'd probably eat it a lot more if they called it rocket. That is a fabulous name for a vegetable and I would like to embrace it into America's cultural fold. Mmmm, rocket salad. What's in that? Is it delicious?

What's in rocket salad? Rocket (arugula) and whatever else you feel like adding! Goat cheese and blueberries, maybe. Or shaved parmesan, toasted almonds, and a raspberry vinegrette. Anything. It's as delicious as you make it.

Okay, now I'm hungry again.

I miss spinach too. It's my go-to green! Tastes good raw or cooked and goes with so many things.

I'll just be over here in the corner. Pay no attention to the slight sniffling sound you may hear...

Even though they say it's okay, I don't know if I believe the FDA or whomever. I mean, trust has to be rebuilt. It's a hard lesson and I continue to be sad.
