Printer rage

I have printer rage [see: subject line].

Thought to self: don't spend a fortune at Kinko's. BUy new black ink. Install it. Print out 50 resumes for job fair. Ta da!

Bought $25 black ink cartridge.

Installed it.

Printer not recognizing.

Only printing out in blue.

Cleaned heads.

Checked alignment.

STILL NOT PRINTING OUT RESUME!

If it's black ink, how is it printing out in blue?

Hee! Logical confusion! The printer has four cartridges- black, blue, magenta, yellow. They were/are all d-e-d ded in the dried-out sense. But apparently not the blue. But for some reason the black, which is full and fresh and fun isn't working. So rage. Luckily I have the keys to my Mom's place and she has a copier so I could take the resume and make copies onto pretty paper. Not ideal, but close enough.

Did you switch the preferences or whatever from color to black? Ours was printing out a coupon all wonky, and Mr.Ghoul realized that was the problem. Now it prints nicely. (Ours goes to "color" as the default for some reason. I don't know if it does that every time we change cartridges or what. I already know too much... by which I mean just enough to cause trouble, not enough to get myself out of said trouble.)
