This 'n' that
Feb. 8th, 2006 07:37 pmI have brain soup. Leftover brain soup, at that. Nothing but a few odds and ends all swirling about and gently simmering. In my head. As opposed to *actual* brain soup which is probably a delicacy somewhere but not in the kitchen of me so there's that. Anyway, to the soup!
- I updated my Flickr account with pics from New Year's with
madeofgold and her boyfriend, Ray. I also updated it a few weeks ago with some random pics that were lying about. It should be noted that I didn't take the New Year's pics. I stole them with permission from Gina because she is the bee's knees and all that. Good times.
- I won $50.00 in a Super Bowl pool. This rocks and also appears later in the post. The excitement builds . . .
- The weekend before last, I walked to Staten Island (my thoughtful comments can be found here) and on the way over on the Ferry I overheard a crazy, death infatuated tween talking about how she could die. Being the concerned New Yorker that I am, I immediately grabbed a pen and transcribed the bizarre thing she said to her father and then submitted it to overheardinnewyork.com.
Today it was posted. It's the third one down. The Tween girl on the SI Ferry. Whee!
- After I completed my Quest for Mochi, I came upon a new and equally frustrating Quest: The Quest for Vincent Longo's Cherry Lipstick, or the Quest for Lipstick [QoL], for short. I have been looking for this since I got back to New York after Christmas. And here's the thing. I know Sephora sells it. I do. Because I have been to Sephora and been to their Vincent Longo stand and seen the empty spot where Cherry is supposed to be!!! In four different stores! This, as you might have guessed, is a mite bit frustrating.
'But AC,' you may say, 'surely VL sells his lipstick at other fine establishments!' And I'm sure he does. But I don't have a gift card to those other establishments. Tomorrow I try Sephora: Union Square. Dun dun DUN!
- But my trip to Columbus Circle was not for naught! I may not have completed the Quest for Lipstick, but I found some other delights. On the same floor as Sephora there is a Boarders, and there is a book I have been looking for about town (not a Quest, though it may become one if I don't find it soon) and while Boarders did not have the intended book, it *did* have two tables of 'buy three for the price of two". And on this table were two books I that were on my list:
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larsen and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Two books! Right there! And if I found a third, it would be free! I couldn't pass this offer up! So I perused and perused and there were some that I considered and some that I really didn't and some that I really, really didn't. And then I saw one that caught my eye, because I had recently read a book of his and quite enjoyed it. So the third book I got was In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson. YAY! New Books! Double YAY!
- Then, having bought my three books with the money I won from the Super Bowl (so, really, it's like they were *free*) and receiving a 25% off receipt for the next few days, I headed down to Whole Food Orgy and found MOCHI!!! I couldn't believe it! Neither of the *other* two Whole Foods had it but this one did! In Blueberry, even! So of course I got it and came home and ate it and it was delicious, but I think I built it up in my mind because I don't really like it quite as much as I remembered liking it though the ice cream part was faboo it's just the rice paper and its consistency, but whatareyagonnado?
- Work is really starting to be unfun. Not even remotely unfun like RGBHell, but unfun in the boring, repetitive way. Today, in an effort to spice things up, I brought in Classical CD's. Also, I chose to have my iPod filled by anything in my library, so that should be interesting. But whatever. I just need to finish my damn GG. But I will. My lease is up in May. Hello, Motivator!
On Monday night I was woken up at two in the morning (so I guess, technically, Tuesday morning) to jackhammering outside my window. Unusual and also? A really freking bad time to be jackhammering!!! Fortunately, it stopped quickly. But the area is being worked on and instead of filling in and retarring (asphalting) the street, they have just laid a big metal sheet over the hole and added some asphalt around the edges to hole it into place. Cars drive over it. Semis drive over it. It's loud. Grr!
Okay, I've mish-mashed your eyes off! Now, to slug.
