So I'm home, lying on my bed and looking out the window when what do I see? But kitten. In a tree.
Well, this is obviously something that needs attention because a kitten is up a tree!!! I ran downstairs- in my pajamas, I might add - to see if I actually saw what I thought I saw and I did so I ran back upstairs and grabbed my phone and called 311 in hopes they would call a fire truck, or whatever protocal is for this situation. Well, they have no protocal for this situation. But they did transfer me to animal control who told me to put a can of food under the tree and leave it alone- it would come down.
Which is did. But I couldn't leave it alone because it was so scared and it needed a cheerleader and I, well, I wanted it. So I sad and cheered and people came and went and I got tuna and it came down and kind of hid but kind of didn't and then it ate the tuna like it was starved and it hissed at me a few times but I figured that was because it was protecting its food and I had all these images of this poor little kitten wearing thread-bare jackets and newsboy hats holding out it's little paws asking "please, sir, can I have some more?" and I wanted to give it a home!!!
So I went and got it some treats to lure it out and while it did love the treats is didn't want to be lured, damn it. By now it's been about 45 minutes or so, and I have called half the people in my cell to see if they had any ideas but no one answered!!! The hell?
Finally I didn't know what to do. I tried reasoning with it, but kittens apparently won't listen to logic. I told it about the loving house it would have with food and warmth and toys and petting but it just didn't care.
Finally, as I was about to give up, this man from three doors down (which would be where we were at this point) comes out to empty the garbage and was all "everyone feeds the cat" and I was all "huh?" and he was all, yeah, the kitten's been around a bit and hangs out in the construction and people feed it all the time.
This kitten has a freaking racket trading on it's looks and pitiful demeanor to get food.
I feel so used.
And I still want the kitten.

Date: 2005-08-24 12:30 am (UTC)Cats are evil. Which is why I like them, but it's still true.

We come by our manipulation skills naturally. Ah, the burdens of being CUTE.

Date: 2005-08-24 02:43 am (UTC)You could get a trap from ... well, I don't know. A pet store? And use a can of food to lure it in. But I think I'd just try feeding it regularly and getting closer and closer to it over time, until it's okay with you touching it. And then, wham! Grab it and run, run to your apartment.
