Hi. I was going to do a lying poll, but I forgot all my lies and truths so that was out. The only one I could remember is that I have never been on a motorcycle, which is true, by the way. The only opportunity I had, I was too afraid to try it (though to be fair I was about eight).

So, today was my last full day as a prelimmer. YAY! We have a meeting on Monday to teach us the ropes of double checking. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I am beyond ecstatic. Woo Hoo! And it's just as well, as I have really been sucking as a prelimmer, at least quantity-wise. Barely 20 stones a day. I'd self-flagellate but for the promotion. Did I mention the promotion? ;)

Last night I broke my music downloading cherry. It was fabulous. And huge as I still can't figure out You Send It which is supposedly the easiest thing since basic arithmetic. But I am maybe two steps above luddite, so I'm pleased with me. Huh. Maybe three steps.

So I downloaded ten songs as was my self-perscribed limit. I could easily see myself spending $100 on songs without blinking and while that would certainly fulfill my instant gratification-ness, it would be hell on my bills. So ten songs.

And can I take a minute to say: WHY the fuck doesn't iTunes have "Cowboy" by Kid Rock??? I have wanted that song for about six billion years and I was thwarted- thwarted, I say! Grr.

Anyway, since I do so love to share, this is what I downloaded. Whee!:

1) Black Velvet Alanna Myles- I love this song. It may be unoriginal, but I think this would be my stripper song. It's all sultry and sexy and guttural and I lurve it. I have had it in my head for many moons and now I have it in my computer. Faboo.

2) Cannonball the Breeders- OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I loved this song in high school and I had one of those flashes of memory as I happened to be perusing iTunes and I took a chance and there it was so, of course I got it. I love it. Still. It brings me joy. as opposed to Joy, which would be a very different service. :)

3) Miss Independent by Kelly Clarkson - Shut. Up. I love this song. Love me, love my love of this song.

4) When the Stars Go Blue The Corrs featuring Bono- So, Bono's voice is really just audial sex and this song exhibits that quite nicely, thank you very much.

5) Bitch Meredith Brooks- I know a lot of people (though not on my fl, I think) were like "Why would you like a song where the girl professes to be a bitch like it's good thing?" but you know what? I think it is. And it's not like she's only a bitch. She's also a love, a child, a mother, and so many more things and I love that. I like how it's unapologetic and it's just a great song. So there.

6) Promise Eve 6- Okay, this song I discovered purely through Buffy fandom. Specifically [livejournal.com profile] valeriex's S/B vid. And it's kind of pop-y and stuff, but the chorus is "Promise not to try not to fuck with your mind" and how can you not like that? Well, I can't. And so now I own it.

7) Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy) Big & Rich- The real question is how this song hasn't been around for years because holy crap it is so great. I might have listened to it about half a dozen times just today. Why? Because it Rocks! So funny and fabulous. It makes me want to go dancing. Clubbing. Dancing and Clubbing. Hmmm, where would I do that in NYC? Kidding! Sort of. I know very little about NYC night life beyond bars so people ([livejournal.com profile] sodanyc, I'm looking at you)! Tell me where to go. Just a place where I can dance in a throng of people. Even a place where I don't have to worry about going with people. Just a place to go out and be. I wanna do that.

8) Sunrise Norah Jones- I first heard this song when I used to put the TV on while getting ready for work. I saw the video on VH1 and was absolutely *charmed* by it. Love it's simplicity and wonderfulness. It makes me smile.

9) Clint Eastwood Gorillaz- I have had this song in my head for weeks but I really only know the first line or two. Downloading it was really for my own sanity. It's a great song, though, so no worries.

10) Twilight Zone Golden Earring- This is another vid song. By [livejournal.com profile] sisabet, I believe (I checked heattilt.com which is where I got it, but I don't see it there. *sniff*). It's a fabulous, perfect Xander vid and the song will always make me think of Xander which is very rarely a bad thing and its just a great song. The only problem is that the only copy available is the seven minute extended version which is about three and a half minutes too long, but que sera sera. I'm still happy to have it.

Whew. Music. I immediately put it all on a cd so I could listen to it at work, and to flesh it out I added:

1) Big Spender Peggy Lee- the minute you walked in the room I could tell you were a man of distinction, a real big spender. It's fabulous and torch-y and I enjoy it quite a lot.

2) Lucille Kenny Rogers- It's 'Lucille' by Kenny Rogers. Is there even a question?

3) Go Slow Down the BoDeans- Interesting fact. I saw the BoDeans in concert pre PO5 and I quite enjoyed them. It was a high school concert, at that, playing in the gym or auditorium of some all boys boarding school. So I like to think I've known them since the beginning. That is, of course, a lie as I only know two of their songs, one being this one and the other the PO5 theme. But that's neither here nor there. Anyway, she loves me on my knees. It works for me.

4) Babylon by David Gray- Dude, I just love it. I love the chorus. I love the light harmony. I love it all.

5) Groove is in the Heart Deee-Lite- I have wanted to put this on a mix for a while, so I just took the opportunity. It makes me chair-boogie while I work.

6) Bad Day REM- I don't always like REM, but the songs I like I really, really like, and this is one of them.

7) Hay Ya Outkast- So, last year, I was in a job from Hell. Some of you may remember. But the one cool thing is that the main conference room overlooked Rockefeller Center, so one day, before I realized while I was in hell, I stayed late to watch the MTV Music Video Awards. Or the pre-show and people arriving, in any case. And when I left, I exited out onto Fifth Ave. where all the limos were queuing. So I stayed for a bit (Beyonce- adorable and tiny, 50 cent had, like, a dozen giant bodyguards around his car. Apparently being shot nine times makes you wary) to watch the arrivals and across the street from me were about three dozen people, probably late teens/early twenties wearing yellow and blue Outkast shirts, and when Outkast came by they all ran out into the street and followed the flatbed they were on. It was really kind of great. Endeared them to me. :)

So, there you go. My really eclectic mix. I call it doubling because I am spectacularly uncreative and I made the CD when I became a Double. So there you go. I have already started a list for the rest of the songs I want to dl next time I get paid (I can but ten songs per check). They include 'Barracuda' by Heart, 'Personal Jesus' by Depeche Mode, 'Sweet Jane' by Cowboy Junkies, 'Let's Get it Started' by Black Eyed Peas and 'Hungry Like A Wolf' and 'Rio' by Duran Duran.

I love downloading.

To I'm just chilling tonight. I might have friends over tomorrow to watch the Super Bowl commercials, and I have to do laundry and maybe, probably do homework, but other than that I am just lazing all weekend. That's just fine by me.

Shake it like a polaroid picture.

My fave NYC clubs are Avalon (http://www.avalonnewyorkcity.com/) and Crobar (http://www.crobar.com). Avalon is probably the better of the two if you're solo, and the music on Fridays es[ecially is superb (Tony Draper and Johnny Vicious). And any Fri or Sat that you wanna go, let me know, because I'm always looking for more clubbing partners :)

Dude, thanks! I see Avalon all the time and I've never been there (not even wen it was the Limelight *sigh*) though I've always wanted to go. I will definitely let you know. :)

Dude, if you guys are going clubbing, I'm so coming with. *Ahem*

Apart from clubs though, there are still quite a lot of fun places to go sans cover. One of my faves is Pianos on the Lower East Side (just went there last night, actually) - they have a good DJ upstairs on the weekends who plays a good mix of stuff from hip hop to old school rock and just general feel good music that you can sing along to. Everyone dances, and it's a very good time. Alphabet Lounge on Ave D has 80's night on Fridays which is beyond fun. It depends on the night in terms of how many people are dancing and such, but if you go with a group, it can be a blast. And across the street from that is Baraca which plays a mix of Brazilian, salsa-y type stuff, and hip hop. Tiny, but fun and some good dancing:)

Mr. Sun loves Big & Rich. That song is fun.

Downloading music rocks! (As long as you do it legally. *cough*)

Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) video Because the video kicks ass. And everyone should have it.

Cowboy I'm fairly sure. It's been awhile since I've heard it. If it's not the one you were thinking of let me know.

And dude? If you want, instead of paying to download just ask me. I can download for free and I really don't mind doing it.

Better than paying a dollar or more for a song, yeah?
