Well, I did pearls today. Yay me. Two whole books.

Did you know that there is a pearl-luster imitation made of varnish and fish scales? Now you do.

And pearls are formed in the gonads of the mollusk? So pearls are kind of like mollusk kidney stones.

Do you see how much richer your life is since you've friended me?

Next up: Jade and Opal. Woo Hoo! I will finish Colored Stones by the end of the year, damn it! Then, the Gem Ident.

I have been in a pissy mood for some time now. Mostly, I think, because of tummy troubles. I hate tummy troubles. But I am feeling much better today which is aces, especially as I was in such a wretched mood yesterday. Pissy, pissy, pissy, that was me. Every little thing just made it worse.

On Friday I rented Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Love Actually. Both, I gotta say, were disappointing. Not bad, mind, but they didn't live up to the hype. And as much as it grieves me to say it, they could have completely removed Colin Firth's whole part of LA and the movie would have been 20 minutes shorter and wouldn't have lost anything. Except, of course, the Firth. I assume they didn't because he is a Star of Note and they probably already had him on contract with the big bucks. It's not like he was Kevin Costner in The Big Chill destined to the cutting room floor.

As for ESotSM, I liked it. I did. I liked Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. I did. But I felt it kind of lacked something, though what I do not know. It was still good and an interesting head trip.

Tonight I made Hot Chicken Salad, a recipe I got from my mom. It is yummy. I will have it with Brown Rice, peas and corn. Delicious and nutritious.

Today I saw Bowling for Columbine for the first time. It was good and definitely interesting, but I can never fully trust Michael Moore so that kind of colored my view. But I was really surprised – in a good way – by Marilyn Manson. Very well spoken and informed. You go with your scary-ass self. I’m sorry. He’s probably the most normal guy on the planet but he scares me.

Now I must go vegetable.

Two whole books.

Wow. Wish I had your dedication.

Marilyn Manson scares me, too.

BTW - do you know when you're going to be in Chitown? Just in case I wanted to plan a trip.

Well, to be fair, each book is, like, forty pages. Nothing too huge. And I had read them months ago. So it was really just note cards and assignments. But it's more than I've done in mumblemumble so I'm pleased. :D

Marilyn Manson: Scary but educated

I should be in Chicago the whole week between Christmas and New Years- specifically the 22nd to January 2nd. I would be not at all adverse to you planning a trip. In fact, I quite encourage it. Quite. *crosses fingers for hopefully planned trip*

I will be back from Cali late on December 25. If that helps with the planning. Plus I can always take a personal day off work - because it WILL be personal!

Kudos for using the term "aces" in your entry. Excellent.

congrats on the pearls! How goes the Jade?

Hey! I'm moving to NYC in 6 months! I can't wait to visit you! I was wondering if you can help me out apartment wise. I don't know what a reasonable price is or what a reasonable area is. In a perfect world I'd live in a 2br with a dishwasher. Is that crazy? The hubby thought we would hunt for a place 'round 2k-2,500k. Is that a good price?

Other questions. Hmmm, diversity is good, lots of cool restaurants is good. We will only have one car so being close to the T is good to. Is a doorman important? I've never had one, never seemed to need one but lots of places advertise them. What does a doorman do exactly? Oh and we own two cats. They are our babies so where we go, so do they. Even if Ollie has taken to beating on the armoir doors to wake me up in the mornings.

I'd be much obliged if you could help me out with advice!

Dreago! NYC! Dude, that is so cool! Of course I have advice- every New Yorker does. :)

Where were you thinking of looking? I am definitely partial to Brooklyn, as I love it here but there are some great other spots as well- though if you have a car, Manhattan might not be the best choice as parking is scarce and garaging could conceivably cost more than the apartment.

As for places to live (in Brooklyn. Hee) I would recommend looking in the Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill/Brooklyn Heights area or the Park Slope/Greenpoint area. Both are nice, friendly neighborhoods with easy subway access and lots of young families, yummy restaurants and easy access to Manhattan. I also think that $2000-$2500 should be a very reasonable price for a 2br in Brooklyn. I am in a small 2br with a dishwasher and my roomie and I only pay $1700- though we are on the cusp of sketchy (but still safe!).

Gosh, I know there is more I can tell you, but I can't think of it. Try Craigslist.org. You can define your parameters (like a place that allows pets) and sort by neighborhoods and costs and stuff. And you can find places that are no fee which saves you a bunch on Broker fees. Yay!

Oh! And I don't think you would need a doorman unless you wanted it for your added safety. Doorman, er, manned buildings tend to be more expensive and most places, at least in my part of the 'hood, don't have them.

Ask me more; I would be thrilled to help! Just let me know what I can do. Yay! You're coming to NYC!
