Gah! I suck!
Sep. 30th, 2004 05:16 pmI just logged on and I am doing this first thing because I suck and I wanted to make sure I didn't forget today!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
marsterslady!!!
So sorry it's so late but I hope you had a wonderful day and that your new year is starting out fantabulously! *hugs*
*
Also, I am eh today, but that's okay. Sometimes there are just eh days. I got my 'special friend' *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* which came as a surprise, only because the last month has been so hectic with the move and the decorating and all I have completely lost track of the days. Fortunately, my body has not.
And, to be clear, I don't have a definite knowledge of the day. Just the general time of month. Just in case you were one of those people. *glares menacingly but really jealously at those people*
I got another psuedo-promotion at work today. Whee! Two in one week! Again, no increase in pay, but there is an increase in responsibility which, again, will reflect in my holiday bonus and help prepare me to be a double checker.
Basically all I am doing is grading bigger stones. Prelims grade up to 3.99 carats. When they think your ready they slowly move you to higher carat sizes (4.99, 5.99, etc.) so as of tomorrow I am grading up to 9.99 carats. Neat. I rock.
I like being good at something.
Finally, just because I can never say this enough and if you haven't learned something new today, then maybe this can be your thing:
When speaking about gemstones (diamonds, rubies, peridot, emeralds, quartz et al) carat is spelled C-A-R-A-T, but when you are speaking about precious metals like gold it is spelled K-A-R-A-T.
A small but important distinction. Jacqueline Susann kept using karat in reference to diamonds in Valley of the Dolls and it just made my teeth itch, though the book was quite good otherwise.
And: Taye Diggs with a baby. Because that also can't be said enough. And I suppose I am just not as invested in the show yes as he is still 'Taye Diggs' as opposed to TD or just 'Taye'. Either way he's rull pretty and his smile can light up a room.
