Well. I have one page done (out of five to seven). I have read (re: skimmed) three of my five sources, kind of. I have reread two of Gwyneth Rhys stories and played around different peoples lj's.
Unfortunately, neither Gwyn, nor any other ljers have anything to offer regarding childern of gay and lesbian parents in the classroom (that is a grammatical error of some sort that I can't for the life of me remember. But I meant that the children are in the classroom, not the homosexual parents, although they could also be in the classroom, just not being taught. Unless they somehow missed kindergarten and early elementary school and feel the need to fulfill that lost time. But I somehow doubt it. And that isn't what the paper is on in any case so I will stop rambling now).
I'm doing this because it is a HUGE issue with elementary schools and it is a hot topic in any case but even more so when children are present. And a lot of schools don't even mention it when they discuss families with is a wonderful way to alienate a child because you (being the teacher) don't have the balls to discuss something that is becoming more and more common. School is for the child. If you have hang-ups you have to put them aside to be a teacher. If you have strong beliefs and think that homosexuality is a SIN! Sin, I tell you! then you shouldn't be teaching young children who are more than likely to take your word as law and end up thinking that they are bad people because they live a perfectly normal life. Their normal is just different that other peoples normal. You know, like everyone else on the planet.
Whew. I seem to have gone off on a mini-rant. But it just bothers me that schools are so willing to completely ignore this very BIG issue, and even if it isn't that common, it is still out there and if kids should learn about it as something that is okay.
Off my soap box now. Back to reading.
