Cause for concern?
Dec. 7th, 2003 05:25 pmMy apartment is filled with smoke from the oven. Not big billowy fire-type smoke, but the "My oven has been on for a while and the foil broke so some things were leaking" type smoke. And my smoke detector hasn't gone off.
On the one hand, Yay! Nothing to deal with.
On the other hand? Why isn't my smoke detector going off? What if there was a real fire and I was asleep. Will have to look into this.
You know those Reynold's Wrap Foil commercials with the women who are all "Put it in foil and bake. No messy clean up! Easy and pie!" Well, I tried that tonight. I made three chicken and one fish. And I put onions and potatoes and peppers and tomatoes and butternut squash and mushrooms in it. I haven't tasted it yet, but it smells quite delicious. I played with my spices so one has balsalmic vinegar and spices, one has curry and cinnamon and one has, uhhh, other stuff. And no messy clean up (other than the stuff to cut the food and the foil that ripped). And I took my extra potato and onion and threw that in some foil with light olive oil and garlic salt and baked that up too, so I can have it with din-din tonight. I feel like quite the gourmet.
Still, the smoke is a bit disconcerting. Everything is kind of hazy, like in a smokey bar. But it is a nice smelling haze. MOstly onion, but also a little sweet. Yay!
Anyway, I was going to take a nap, but cleaned and cooked instead (yay me!). I still haven't written a blessed word, though and there is other stuff i should probably be doing, but I probably won't. Hey. I did dishes and cooked. Productivity, damn it! I feel my quota is full.

Date: 2003-12-07 05:00 pm (UTC)The worst thing ever was last summer when I accidentally put twice the amount of butter in my cookies, and the butter ran over the edges and hit the electric element. I had to open every window in the house and sit on the porch with my bunny and the cats for two hours.
