What you need to do is get "Stitch and B*tch". It's a great book and I found it easy to follow. (canadia_bit didn't, though, so I suggest you get it from the library to try out.) You should totally take up knitting because a) many on your flist knit and you want to be part of the in crowd, and b) it's fun and you can make cute accessories and sweaters. Plus, if you're like me, you'll knit while watching TV and won't feel like you're wasting time vegging. :D
Too bad I haven't made my knitting icon yet. *sniffle*
This is so true. I still prefer cross stitching, which I do when I don't have to watch the TV/movie very closely - like when I'm watching/listening to most reality TV (except TAR, which is too fast-paced).
Otherwise, it's all knitting. I would like to recommend tense horror/action/thrillers for making quick progress. I added about five inches' worth of scarf while watching Dawn of the Dead because I was so jittery.
And yes! Knit! Queenofdenile and I just started ourselves. I can only do one stitch, so I'm doing winter scarves for the chicklets, but I have big dreams of eventually making a fisherman's sweater. I don't know anything about needle sizes or kinds of yarn to get or anything. My mom helped me pick out my needles (size 7), and I grabbed yarn based on whether or not it would match the kids' coats. And it's cheap, and not wool. (Wool makes me too itchy, so I don't want to handle it all damn day.) Otherwise, I know nothing.
