A little bit of this and that
Apr. 3rd, 2010 11:01 am♥ While I myself am quite loving playing the guitar the same can't be said for Peekie. She sees me reach for it and all but sprints from the room (she'd sprint but that's just not dignified, you know). I have learned (and mostly forgotten) quite a bit of music and I think I'm catching on okay, but having been playing for a month I think I can safely say I am not a prodigy, darn it. But I can (sort of) play "Dead Flowers" by the Rolling Stones because my instructor thinks it's important to have a song about heroin to play for Easter.
♥ I recently finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (which, I admit, I picked up because of the casting of the film they are planning on making. Sue me) and I quite liked it, think it will be a good movie, think it's really readable and kind of forgettable. But a quick and entertaining read. I'm glad I read it.
♥ I have a love-less love relationship with Bill Bryson. I LOVE AND ADORE A Short History of Nearly Everything and In a Sunburned Country but found A Walk in the Woods to drag and lag, not worth the price tag*. I realized yesterday that I owned I'm a Stranger Here Myself, a collection of his columns he wrote for a British newspaper not long after moving back to the States.
It's okay. Enjoyable, even. But reads like, well, newspaper columns. Oh well.
♥ I'm trying to read books I haven't read before (I am a big fan of book rereading. You can ask Jurassic Park which I'm pretty sure I've read nine times) in an effort to branch out from "comfort food" books. Any recs for a good book would be excellent!
♥ I want to go on a walk to the zoo. I'm going to go on a walk to the zoo. But it's raining. Sometimes hard. And it's somewhat chilly out.
Make no mistake: I will go. I'm just working up the energy to get there. Stopping for coffee en route will help, I'm sure.
♥ Aunthood continues to rock. PK will be six weeks on Monday (!) and his actual due date is on Thursday. He is more incredible every time I see him and I love his so much.
♥ I thought I had more, but I can't remember what it was. Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates it and Happy Passover to everyone who celebrates it and Happy Spring to everyone in the Northern Hemisphere and Happy Saturday to everyone who is currently having a Saturday and Happy Sunday to everyone in the future.
*MWAH*
* Okay, that was harsh. But it RHYMED! I can't just ignore the rhyme!
