Sports Night. It's taken over.
Dec. 28th, 2006 01:06 pmI'm having issues with Peter Krause's last name being two syllables.
Because I had a friend with the last name Krause - K-R-A-U-S-E and it was
one syllable. So where is the second syllable? How do you pronounce it?
Krau-suh? Krau-say? Krau-wtf?
And the SN DVD's have no commentary on them (or *any* extras which sucks) so
I can't even hear him pronounce this phantom syllable.
And while were on things that bother me, I'm not loving season two as much
as season one. And I think I know why. Because Season One was the Casey
and Dan show, something I wholeheartedly endorse. But Season two has
*significantly* less Casey & Dan and has, in fact, become the Casey and Dana
show which I like . . . less.
So, season two, so far:
Good:
* Casey is hot and does a great deal of smirking and this tongue thing that
I also found appealing in another (bottle) blond male character on a
television show I have, on occasion, shown obsession for. Ahem.
Seriously, though. The tongue.
* There was a moment. Right after Dan realizes he's having a nervous
breakdown. And he's telling Casey about it in his vague, non-telling way.
And there is masculine support.
* The show is only two seasons, and I can see this season going in a
direction I'm not loving with my whole heart and so I can just pretend the
rest of the series went in a direction I deemed appropriate. It's happy in
my head.
Less good:
* This whole Dana/Casey thing. I mean, I like Dana. I do. But, honestly,
her plan is really, really dumb. And I know where she's coming from, but
that doesn't negate the dumbness. Also, her hair in S2 is ageing her. She
is so much younger and prettier than her haircut allows.
* Other things that I can't currently think of.
* Not enough Dan and Casey interacting like they might just have sex at any
moment.
* No Dan/Casey bonding without pants (so far).
* I'm seeing this more this season, but someone in the writing room really
has to figure out their New York landmarks. I mean, the majority of the
location shots are of the Twin Towers (which, the whole bomb threat
episodes? Less funny than they may have been six years ago) which were very
much downtown. And also imply that the studio was, in fact, in one of the
Twin Towers. But they do have some location shots of The Empire State
Building which is very much in Harold Square. But THEN! Then, my friends,
Dan mentions coming to them live from Rockefeller Center which is VERY MUCH
in, well, Rockefeller Center (48-51 streets) which is not Harold Sq (34th
street) and *DEFINITELY* isn't Downtown (Down town).
Possibly I have meditated too much on this.
I have another problem as well. This problem being that I am almost done
watching the entire series. All two seasons. Almost over. If you are me,
logical progression would mean that I then comb the internets and such until
I find more work the actors have done (particularly the actors I like) and
then watch the actors entire filmography. Now, with Peter Krous-ole' I don't
have to go far because I know that he was on Six Feet Under and I know that
it would be very easy for me to get a hold of that. But what if I don't
like the character of Nate? And, more importantly, ( Spoiler! ) WON'T SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO JOSH CHARLES!!!!!
I mean, I know he's . . . worked. But not a lot. Is he holding out for
better scripts? Is he some kind of asshole who only wants to be the star
(which, he was, apparently, in S.W.A.T. so I think not)? Why isn't he
working? I know he's a good actor as even though I haven't seen it in 17
years (way too upsetting) I *know* he rocked the cave in Dead Poets Society.
And he rocked the newsroom in SN. This makes no sense!
I'm concerned.
Also, he grew up next door to one of my best friends from High School. So
I'm all with the two degrees of separation.
