A lot of random.
Nov. 6th, 2005 07:51 pm1) Today I went to the NYC Marathon for the first time. OH MY GOD it was the most wonderful experience! I had a blast and it was wonderful to see all the people from everywhere and I got there early enough to see some of the disabled people including the man who had no legs who was pushing himself on a skateboard!!! Talk about human perseverance. I was at the eight mile mark and so people were still relatively peppy and that was cool, though you could see some definite wear as the runners went on. The giant throng of people was every bit as giant and throng-like as pictures/TV/etc imply. And the elite men and women were awesome.
Other things of note I saw:
- people with cerebral palsy pushing themselves backwards with their feet.
- many people in speed-wheelchairs peddling with their arms
- people dressed as rhinos with "save the rhino" on their costumes
- a huge group of women stripped down to their fabulously decorated bras (I likes the cab bras with the yellow and black checkers and the mirrors on their nipples. Hee!) They were especially great as they were totally normal people with totally normal bodies.
- people seeing people they knew and running over to give giant, sweaty hugs.
- HUNDREDS of people with their names or facts about them (I'm a survivor sort of thing) so we could cheer for them by name or, uh, fact.
It was so, so wonderful and I am so glad I saw it.
2) Having seen the marathon I have decided I want to run. Now, this may be a problem as I hate running. I don't think it's fun. This is why I got rollerblades. But now I want to run. So tomorrow after work I am thinking of walking down to the Apple store and getting an iPod shuffle (I really don't need more than that) and seeing if I can actually get into this. Time, it shall tell.
3) Things with boy are good.
4) SOB! Saw the marathon with my Friend of the Same Name and this is wonderful as we will not be able to do things like this soon as she got a job in Seattle and is moving there next month!!! For the record that is, now, two of my best friends who have moved to the other side of the country. I am so, so happy for her but so, so sad for me. : (
5) I have eaten so much recently and I feel like a beached whale. It's bad, people. Maybe this running thing will pan out and so I can keep eating a lot and worry less about everything sticking to me. *crosses fingers*
Notice how I didn't even mention the option of eating less

8) Yesterday the boy and I went for brunch and ended up walking around the Village for hours which was a great deal of fun. He had business cards made for his friends who just moved and the guy who made them used an old fashioned printing press which was so cool! And Boy had the cards printed on the back of cereal boxes cut to card size which was neat.
I bought myself a cylinder of English Smarties at Ye Olde English Product Shoppe (whose name I can't recall at the mo) and dude! They are so good. It's probably just as well I can't recall the name of the shop or I would go there every day. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
9) I am, once again, making a concentrated effort to stop smoking completely. Now, I'm not smoking that much (two to three cigs a day, usually) but, really, I want to be done with it. Especially since I am on the pill. I don't actually have to court heart disease.
10) Last week I had a major breakdown that left me sobbing over my microscope for two hours. This week I had a minibreakdown because my sister is dating this man and they might someday get married and I don't know if I'll ever get married and I was supposed to be married first and I AM GOING TO DIE ALONE. But I'll be with friends. So that helps. Still. Of course, this is totally based on nothing but my mom's word and speculation, so there's that. I'm better now. And I've started composing my Maid of Honor speech. Look! A gun. I think I'll jump it!
11) I can't believe that I have to get on buying my tickets home for Christmas! The years, they fly. Much like I will be doing next month.
12) I opened a flickr account. When I get my marathon pics back I'll upload them there. My name flickr name is phantom_xtl. This is a term I use at work. It is a really cool inclusion in which you can see the outline of a transparent crystal in a diamond. It's my favorite inclusion. Also, 'xtl' is how we type 'crystal' at work. I have to think about the actual spelling now. GIA! What have you done to meeeeeeeee!
13) I am looking to buy a digital camera. Cheep but decent. I'm not going for major high end, here. Just a good, easy to operate camera. Any suggestions would be most helpful. =)
14) Oh! I'm reading Return of the King and I quite like it and I can't believe that I am actually reading the LotR books because it took me OMGSOLONG to get into them. They are excellent.
15) Eh, I know there's more, but I can't think of it at the moment. S'okay. I'll just post again when I do.
