May. 30th, 2004 09:39 pmSaw Super Size Me today. It was excellent. I don't have the energy to get into it (three day weekend lethargy is kicking in) but it didn't turn me against McDonalds (seeing as though I eat there maybe once every two years, it wouldn't have been bad if it did) and I liked that. I liked that it wasn't all "The big corporation is out to get you [insert maniacal laughter]", though there was definitely some of that. Mostly, I went away thinking that I probably shouldn't have McDonalds for every meal every day for 30 day, which, in all honesty, I already knew.
But it was really interesting and entertaining and, at times, horribly graphic.
I give it two thumbs up and a plucky spirit.
I also did laundry, dishes, two chapters of homework and went for a nice walk (after the movie that talks a great deal about how little people exercise).
Walked from the Chelsea Theater to the Farmer's Market in Union Square only to discover that there was no Farmer's Market in Union Square. Grr. Every time I'm in the city and want to go it's never freaking there.
I, of course, suspect conspiracy.
Randomly picked up the Stephen King novel Insomnia this morning as I was heading for the Laundromat (picked up from my bookshelf, mind. Did not go out and buy it). I had forgotten how much I enjoy it. Not nearly as much as The Stand or even IT, but it is a very entertaining and easy read.
Also started with the gems today, meaning I've finished all the background books in Colored Stones and am now in the specifics section. Today I read "Ruby". Then it's "Blue Sapphire" followed by, uh, "Other Colored Sapphire (?)" followed by Emeralds, pearl, jade, etc. etc. etc. They go from book 12 to book 27.
Fun fact: Rubies and sapphires are essentially the same stone with different trace elements. Really. That's the only real difference. They are both corundum. They are mined in similar regions. And there is a very very fine line between ruby and pink sapphire. So if someone is trying to sell you a pink stone and saying it's a ruby, actually, it's pink sapphire witch is considerably cheaper (in that it's more available). And if someone is trying to sell you a red sapphire they are totally trying to pull a fast one. There is no red sapphire. It's ruby.
Oh! And "I Love the Nineties" starts on July 12!!! I'm all a-twitter. I love those shows. They are my televisual crack.
