Reason # 628 why I love New York
Sep. 5th, 2003 12:51 pmOutside my building they set up an area where we can watch the US Open, which in and of itself is cool, but they didn't just throw up a big screen and say "Enjoy". No, they set up stadium seating and a big screen to project the games on. Not only that, but between the stadium seating and the screen, they have laid sod so it looks park-y and they have set up beach chairs on that as well, so there are two places to sit and watch and eat lunch.
It's really nice.
Not only that, but every fall (and maybe spring, though I can't be sure) they feature an artist in Rockefeller Center for the few months before the tree. I remember one year it was spiders (ugh) (but kind of cool). This year they have the art of Takashi Murakami and it is these giant cartoon-y anime-like sculptures and two giant balloons over the center, where the rink is in the winter. It's pretty nifty.
And have I mentioned the sun? And the Friday?
*happy sigh*
ETA: Ahh! I am a terrible mother! My cat, Peekie, is just fine. She got five teeth pulled (owww) but she can still eat hard food. And she didn't get shaved smooth, she got a buzz. The vet said that when she heals she will be much happier and feel much better. Thank goodness. My poor, sweet Peekie!
ETalsoA: The beach chairs set up were really nice canvas ones, not the uncomfortable vynal ones. And some of the local merchants were serving up food (like burgers, pizza, Krispy Kremes) outside, too.
It rocked.
